On Tuesday April 12, 2011 at 1:00pm Hancock County Schools (HCS) had the official groundbreaking indoors (due to weather conditions) at the Oak Glen Middle School (OGMS) gymnasium for Oak Glen High School (OGHS) Multi-Sports Stadium/Field of Dreams and the OGMS Wrestling Addition.  

The groundbreaking event was open to the public.  Sue Smith, Superintendent of HCS, welcomed all present and introduced the OGHS Band under the direction of Wendy Zinn.  Miss Smith also introduced guest speakers, Jerry Durante president of the Hancock County Board of Education, Barbara Logue Principal of OGHS who introduced Tyler Stovall who sang America the Beautiful, Joey Davis senior at OGHS and Ginger Greene Principal of OGMS.  Featured guest speaker was Dr. Mark Manchin, Executive Director of the School Building Authority.

 The OGHS Multi-Sports Stadium will include artificial turf field, seating capacity for 3,040, restrooms, locker rooms, concessions, press box, scoreboard, PA/sound system, field lighting, and repair and resurface the existing 8-lane track fencing and additional parking.

The Field of Dreams will include concession stand, restrooms, maintenance building, bleachers, press box, PA system and scoreboards, paved and lighted parking and access drives, and lighted stairs to Oak Glen High School.

The Wrestling addition will provide practice area for the OGMS wrestling program.

Completion Date for these projects is spring, 2012.
